A World without a World Map

Hello again!
Every few months or so I chip away at something new for my hack. The plan is to make an original game. Even if I never finish, it's fun to mess around with hacking this game.
I'm curious, is it theoretically possible to create a game without bothering to use the world maps? I figure I'd need to cut out the Warp spell/warp stones, but does anything else get messed up? Will I still need to set a parent map?

The parent map is set for warps that don't bother setting a destination; they're just "Use last Parent Map address" as their warp destination. You'd need to go into a level editor and set those as explicit warps; I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that.
